Why Little Gems Pre-School

We are a small, well established setting specialising in caring for children from 2 to 5 years.

We are open term time 9am – 3pm and offer flexible sessions or full day care.

Little Gems is privately owned and led by Gemma Akins since 1994. Our highly qualified managers run the day to day activities and take the lead delivering the EYFS at each setting; Mrs Kelly Light at Chandlers Ford and Mrs Samantha Gilbert at West End and Mrs Sian Gale at Wickham.

Meet Our Teachers

Our staff are carefully selected for their genuine natural warmth towards young children and their passion for delivering high quality Early Years education.

Your Children

We strongly value a close working relationship with our parents.

Each setting has a parents in partnership co-ordinator who strives to ensure we involve and welcome our parents into the setting in many different ways.

All parents are warmly welcome to join in any session with reading to children and getting involved in a variety of activities with them. We hold an annual father and child day. This day’s activities are designed and organised by staff usually around fathers day. Children can invite any family member they wish – be it dad, granddad, uncle or otherwise!

Informal appointments are made regularly for parents to come and speak to their child’s key person to look at their learning journals with us and discuss progress, next steps and anything else that is relevant and important to your child and you.

Safety

We take your child’s health and safety very seriously. We adhere to health and safety guidelines and each pre-school has a Health and Safety representative and regular risk assessments are carried out.

We are proud to say that normally Ofsted minimum ratios are well exceeded in order to offer high quality care and attention to all our Little Gems children.

Happiness

Your child’s happiness is of paramount importance. Children can only learn when they feel happy and relaxed at pre-school. We understand that for some children this will be their first experience of leaving you and we will closely with you to minimise any anxieties you both have and agree a plan to ensure they settle as quickly as possible. If we believe your child is too distressed to be left without you we will discuss this and agree the best way forward for your child.

Education

We follow the Early Years Foundation stage which provides a framework for childrens early years care and education until the end of reception year. There are three prime areas of learning: Personal, social and emotional development

Communication and language development

Physical development.

The four other areas are:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World and

Expressive arts and design.

Skills, experiences and learning opportunities are presented to the children through meaningful play contexts and adult led activities which ensure that each child has the opportunity to play and explore in an active and engaging environment that allows them to be creative, think critically and take risks to achieve more. We observe and celebrate your child’s successes and share these with you regularly.
